Photography Explored (Experimental and Alternative)

April 6 – 29, 2023

Working with film and experimenting with alternative processes and techniques, artist Marcus Lelle experiences uncertainty routinely. Even considering the planning that goes into every image, the final results can never be known ahead of time. By choosing to exchange as many of the chemicals that are involved in the process for more environmentally focused materials, such as beer, wine and coffee, Marcus begins to remove the known aspects of his chosen medium. Three dimensional works are paired with their two dimensional counterparts, bringing the image out of the studio and directly into the viewer’s space; the exhibition offers a focus on not only the subject, but the medium and process as well.

In Photography Explored (Experimental and Alternative), Marcus explores the boundaries of the photographic medium, and creates a space where viewer and artist alike can find themselves sharing in the sense of discovery and challenging their own perceptions. Marcus often chooses to include the edges of the work to provide a glimpse of the process, allowing the viewer to share in the emotions that he experienced as he created each piece. This body of work focuses on human emotion as it is conveyed by the subject, and embodies the ideals of experimentation, creativity and passion.

Photography Explored (Experimental and Alternative) will be on display at Gallery 110 from April 6 – 29, 2023. Gallery hours are Thursday – Saturday from 12pm – 5pm and by appointment. Please join us for the First Thursday Art Walk on April 6 from 4-8pm.
