The Japanese concept of “mono no aware” is explored in Peter Serko’s current exhibition, East Meets West, at Gallery 110. Photographer, Peter Serko’s, opposing collections characterize mono no aware, the realization about the transience of life and appreciation of its fleeting beauty. The first collection is a series of images taken in a Japanese garden where the careful eye can see examples of mono no aware at every turn. The second collection, photographed in other locales, conveys the spirit of mono no aware through the Artist’s own aesthetic.

Sarah Dillon
Artist Sarah Dillon contemplates time, place and change and ultimately explores the human condition and what it is to be where you are with her new work on view at Gallery 110. Using bold color and expressive texture in aggressively developed surfaces, the artist mixes memories, mood, stories and fleeting thoughts from the day into her media. The work encourages self-reflection in life around us that is commonly overlooked in an effort to discover truth through experience – humor, mystery and stories waiting to be told.
The paintings, mixed media drawings and resin works are placeholders; a relic of a moment gone by, expressive energy or application of the moment at hand or even the anticipation of a moment to come. Some of the work explores clips of narrative or events, and some of the work simply pauses to document the weather forecast on a given day.
