Jay Stoneking

Jay Stoneking is an abstract artist and graphic novelist based in Seattle, Washington. Creation is the physical, ritual magic by which he weaves his fantasy into the world. His work is art and occult, each painting reflecting a pilgrimage inward captured in delicate portals, gates, and arcane scrolls.

Geometric gold rays and doorways peel open the inner veil in soft, abstract landscapes of vast skies, sands, and seas on canvas. Scenes are built up slowly in thin layers, painting a vehicle for meditation, self-actualization, and personal healing. When the journey is complete, Jay finishes the piece with his signature gold edges to transform the canvas into an open gate peering into its timeless, hallowed place.

Exploring themes of personal power and the pursuit of the unknowable, Incantives are intricate calligraphic patterns woven into spells on scrolls and paper talismans. He divines intents of protection, prosperity, or power onto surfaces with arcane script, then gilds the edges to bind its delicate magic in place.

Primarily self-taught, Jay’s creative practice includes traditional and digital mediums, design, and written works. His graphic novel, The Unbound Arcana, is an ongoing digital series experimenting in structure, color, and minimalism. He studied computer science, working briefly as a software developer before embarking into his professional career in digital design. He makes from his studio in Ballard, Seattle.
